Joined Better Banks in 2014
Along with Peoria, Chillicothe grew due to river traffic and quickly became a stop for barge and railroad traffic traveling to and from Chicago and St. Louis. As the town grew, so did the need for a financial institution, and the Truitt-Matthew Bank was established in 1868.
In 1934, Truitt-Matthew Bank became the First National Bank of Chillicothe. And then in 2014, First National Bank was acquired by Better Banks becoming the seventh branch location.
Better Banks is proud to continue the First National Bank’s commitment to their customers and the Chillicothe community. The combination of banks, each with a rich history and complementary core strengths, allowed the same dedication and commitment to our customers, with enhanced products and services.

Chillicothe Community Involvement
Being a community leader is who we are. Our team volunteers hundreds of hours each year in leadership and education roles in addition to sponsoring local events.
As a community bank, we feel strongly that giving back to our local community is important.
Especially efforts aimed at improving overall economic well-being and making a positive difference in our local schools and communities.
