Welcome to Better Banks.
Open a Checking Account with Better Banks
This is the most important step! Please take a look at our checking account options available. Once you've decided which account is right for you, you will need to gather the following items:
- Social Security numbers for everyone listed on the account
- Two forms of valid ID, such as a Driver's License, State ID, or Passport
- Contact information for everyone on the account
- Money to fund the account
When you are ready, you can visit any of our locations or start your new account online with our quick and easy online application.
Enroll in Digital Banking
Digital Banking gives you 24-hour account access and plenty of features to help you keep track of your finances – all from the convenience of your browser, tablet, or mobile phone. You can enroll in Digital Banking online here.
Transfer Direct Deposits
Switch your direct deposits from your employer(s), retirement plan(s), or other sources of income to your new checking account. When you’re setting up your new direct deposits, be sure to confirm when they will take effect so you can budget and plan accordingly.
Transfer Automatic Payments
Before you begin transferring automatic payments, it may be helpful to have a few recent bank statements on hand to ensure nothing is overlooked.
If you’re using Bill Pay, export a list of your current payees and your payment history. From there, enroll in Better Banks Bill Pay. Once enrolled, you can add your payees through Digital Banking either online or on the Mobile App.
Contact the companies you’ve set up automatic payments with, like your insurance company, gym, cable or internet provider, and local utilities, to provide them with your new account information. Make sure you have your new account number and routing number: 071120207 on hand to make the process easier.
Close Your Old Accounts
Before you close your old account, let’s make sure you’re ready to take this step:
- Have you switched all your direct deposits and automatic payments?
- Have all your checks, debit card purchases, transfers, or automatic payments cleared your old account? This may take up to 10 days.
- Have you received your new debit card and PIN?
- Have you downloaded our Mobile App and enrolled in Digital Banking and Bill Pay?
- Have you enrolled in eStatements?
If the answer is yes to these questions, it’s time to take the final step and close out your old account. Contact your former financial institution, let them know you wish to close your account and follow their process.
